Cinderella is a well known fairy tale, which has been around for years and is still loved by kids and adults all around the world. This play is an inspiration and adaptation of the fairy tale. It will be brought to life by the colourful performance of 20 fresh 9-12 year old kids.

More importance is emphasized on the Prince’s father, the Majestic King who rules a traditional kingdom in the modern world. He passes on a new rule that everyone should only speak in written Tamil (the harder version). It shows the difficulty people face in doing so and ends up in some living dual life. This play thus comes in line with MOE’s new rule of encouraging all Tamil students to speak in spoken Tamil (the practical version). It allows the students to speak more fluently in spoken Tamil which is also tested in the MOE Oral Exam.

Unlike the actual story, this play is set in modern times in an unknown country which is split into two – the rich people and the poor. It highlights the difference in both the groups and how the poor are looked down by the rich. It also includes how the locals are helped by the governing authority. It is depicted in such a way to set the people thinking on how they could improve their living standards given their current status and the recession that has hit them recently.

Delivered in a humorous and cute way through the kids it also highlights the matrimony of people between statuses. The rich prince falling in love with a slave and fighting to pursue his love for her is indeed a dream come true. It serves as a good platform for the kids to explore their talents, build their confidence and also improve their spoken Tamil.

Cinderella will bring you through a colourful journey which will leave you laughing in stitches and with thought provoking issues. This Children production is another Ravindran Drama Group’s attempt to cultivate young hearts into Tamil Theatre.
