ABOUT ARANGAM 08 - PRELIMINARY ROUNDS

Arangam 08, preliminary rounds were successfully conducted on 14th and 15th February 08 at Jurong Junior College.

Arangam 08 Finals was a public performance witnessed by honourable guest principals and teachers from various institutions. The winners of this round of the competition will be awarded with the RDG champion trophy, individual gold trophies and cash prize for the group. This is only awarded after they successfully satisfy one more fete in the finals, the improvisation theatre round. Here, the genre of the drama and the props provided will only be revealed before they commence their enactment, this is the most challenging aspect of this round. The aim of this segment is to see how effectively participants are able to apply the improvisation skills acquired during the workshops, to complete their task.

Mr Iswaran Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry, was the guest of honour. He also gave away prizes to the all participants and winning teams.

The Judges for this round were Mr Rajasekar and Mr Chandran.

Mission of ARANGAM 08

To engender creative, confident and responsible theatre makers to utilize theatre

as a medium of infotainment to educate and entertain the community at large

Objectives of ARANGAM 08

To promote Spoken Tamil In Singapore

To Instill confidence and creativity amongst Tamil youths via exposure and experiencing Theatre making

To provide a platform for new and emerging talents to showcase their talents

To aid in the creation and cultivation of new theatre makers for the theatre scene in Singapore

To create a mass theatre going culture which would engender a creative and responsible citizenry
