| Project Naam Programme Objectives o To expose
students to an interactive theatrical experience. Target Audience Project 'Naam' will be piloted among 80 Tamil speaking Secondary 2 and 3 students from the 5 secondary schools.
All workshops were held at HPB Auditorium The interactive forum theatre based workshop commenced on 12 July 2008 with some 60 students from 4 participating schools. The 1-day interactive forum theatre workshop was followed by a drama workshop on 26 July where the students put their creativity to the test and developed 1-minute TV commercials on one of the risky health behaviours (smoking, binge drinking and pre-marital sex) covered in 'Project Naam'. The finale on 2 August saw the students acting out the commercials they had developed in a bid to educate their peers on the consequences of engaging in such risky health behaviours. Throughout the 3-day programme, the enthusiasm and commitment shown by the teachers and students , despite their busy schedules, were admirable. On the final day, the students impressed us with their creativity and, most importantly, their grasp of the high risk health behaviours discussed. Feedback from both the teachers and students was extremely encouraging, with both parties requesting for a re-run of the programme next year. The students also indicated a strong likelihood of not engaging in the risky health behaviours covered. Project Naam', is the pilot initiative of RDG & HPB to reach out to Tamil speaking youth and ended with resounding success. Project Naam would not have been a success if not for the dedication of your Tamil language teachers as well as the commitment of your students. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all of them. |
