V. Mohan makes his Directorial debut in Puthiya Uthiram 2011
Vandhavan Yaar is an adaptation of An Inspector calls a play by J. B. Priestley. The actual play is set in an English industrial city, in the year 1912, where a young girl commits suicide and an eminently respectable British family is subject to a routine inquiry in connection to the death. An inspector calls to interrogate the family, and during the course of his questioning, all members of the family are implicated lightly or deeply in the girls suicide. The family, shown as being closely knit and friendly, ends up selfish, self-centered and cowardly, before the evening is over. The surprising revelation is that the Inspector turns out to be a fake, a mysterious man who has full knowledge of the familys affair in relation to the girl's suicide.
Vandhavan Yaar has been changed in certain ways, namely the period. It is taking place in Singapore. The names have been changed. But the content of the play is kept intact, changing only the places to suit the local scenario.
